bells. 5th line was dead b4 it woz alive. it was designed 4 kooks, an manufacturers who cant make a kite work on 4 lines. 5th line progressed to bow kites. it jus makes it easyer for people who dont have any skill whatsoever, an the kite industry able to make money by puttin dickheads on the beach who will be a hazard to evry1 else who is around that area! x x x peace an love
Its a shame that so many fifth line kites also required that extra line for the sake of stability! It doesnt really give you many options. There are now plenty of 4 line kites that will reverse launch without too much trouble. To the ‘haters’ leaving comments on windmachine.biz , you could even reverse launch waroos in proper winds so its certainly possible on a kite designed with this capability in mind!
Over the weekend my kite was getting very wet as I had little power and was trying out passes on my other bad tack.! But alas I was using a 5th line!!! But not in the conventional configuration, i have a very thin line that runs up one of my steering lines to the trailing edge of a side strut. Pulling on it for about 5 seconds, with little skill or flair, flips the kite ready for launch, a tug on the centre lines and its back in the game. The benefit of this system is that if the kite rolls over its not going have any lines wrapped around it, and the extra line unspins with the bar….obviously. So if you need the help of a fifth line for launching, why have one that gets in the way !
Zeeko’s have this system, and it would be good to see it appearing on other bow/delta style kites, especially the larger ones.
Maybe its not completely dead, but a re-birth or rethink is requires. Perhaps one day all kite designs will only require the usual 4 lines. That’d be good progress. But hang on, why isnt there a 3 line design?????

Dude,
I want to see you do that same launch in 20 knts of wind, 2 foot swell and in water where you can’t touch the bottom.
nothing wrong with a fifth line at all. beginners should stay away from fifth line kites but c kites are the way to go!
BOOM…….and served!!
Ok Keith, Its a deal…..

@Bells
4 line kites were designed for kooks who couldnt handle 2 lines! ahaha
5 th line is for preservation of c kite through progression of unhooked trickery. sik drag
What a joke!
Dude you saw us the same in 25 knots whilst getting dragged somewhere deep enough.
Until then I keep my fifth line
Yet SS still offer the 5th line option, or is that just to make some extra cash i wonder?
Olly, its probably for the die hard 5th liners like yourself??
Some real interesting comments on this subject. Preservation of C kite?? Your never going to get into trickery with this safety mind…
Another Great Video here,
p.s Launching In windier conditions is easier
